Applying for an Apartment: Rent-Geared-to-Income Subsidy

What is the difference between market rent and rent-geared-to-income?

Market rent is the standard rent for an apartment.

Rent-geared-to-income is based on a person's income. This is usually based on 30% of a person's gross monthly household income from all sources (before taxes and deductions). You can find out more through the City of Toronto.
How many apartments are in the Norm Houghton Complex?

The Norm Houghton Complex has two buildings: 680 Kingston Road and 11 Main Street.
680 Kingston is for seniors and has 22 one-bedroom apartments and 22 bachelor apartments.
11 Main is for families, singles and seniors and has 62 apartments. There are one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments, as well as bachelors.
Is there a waiting list?

For subsidized apartments, My Access to Housing Toronto maintains the waitlist. Please contact them for more information.

What does the rent include?

Rent includes hydro, heat and water. Tenants are responsible for paying for their telephone, cable and insurance.
Can I bring my own appliances with me?

Apartments include a fridge and stove. Washers, dryers, dishwashers and air conditioners are not permitted in units. A coin-operated laundry is available in the building.
How much storage space is there?

There are storage closets in all apartments. There is no further storage available.
